Too grassy for the honky tonks and too amplified for the traditional stages, Texas String Assembly has carved out their own niche in Austin’s favorite rock ‘n’ roll clubs. Since forming in 2020, the 7-piece band of five to ten men has blended elements of bluegrass, funk, jazz, folk-country, and hippie jugband music, growing from backyards to bars to beloved venues as they cultivated their “mostly acoustic” Americana sound and garnered attention for their electrifying live performances.
In March, the band signed with Nine Mile Records and ran through their first SXSW on their way to unveiling their debut album DOGGABONE with a memorable release show at The Mohawk. Since DOGGABONE hit the airwaves, Texas String Assembly has not stopped running, playing 50 shows in 2022–including riding the rails for a seven-date train tour through Europe and hitting the highways for a nine-date tour of the southeastern U.S., all while continuing to bloom locally where they’ve shared stages with Austin’s finest, such as Sir Woman, Tony Kamel, The Deer, A Giant Dog, Buffalo Hunt, Nolan Potter’s Nightmare Band, Sweet Spirit, Nightcap, EC Mayne, Deezie Brown, Sabrina Ellis, The Willy McGee Band, and more. With a fast growing fanbase, Texas String Assembly is primed for an exciting 2023 as they prepare to go into the studio to record their sophomore album.
