If you ask Austin live music fans from the 80s and 90s about a show that changed their life, you will get a variety of answers: The Replacements, Nirvana, Burning Spear, Trouble Funk, Oasis, Bad Mutha Goose, Joe Ely and the list goes on. But you will also hear of a common colorful thread running through these tales of musical history. A rickety stage, patchy roof and tropical mural that surrounded these soul-imprinting events and filled a much more innocent downtown Austin with uncompromising, eclectic, uplifting music. Liberty Lunch was the place where Austin musicians and fans came together to make history.
